OSCARS 2011

well the OSCARS have come and gone. but now is the best part (the critics turn to reign in on everything). this year i basically just watched the live red carpet show before hand and skimmed through magazines during the show. i really wasn't too thrilled about the host(GASP)-yes i said it!! don't get me wrong i think Franco has something going for him the in the looks department and i usually think Anne is a great up and coming style icon(except for last night) buuuuut with that being said i don't know why that gives them the right to host the oscars. i need someone with jokes, a little filth, and some evil humor towards the celebs. i mean us humans are sitting here watching these aliens look gorgeous, wear dresses that we would die to have on, and on top of that receive gold naked men statues, so we would LOVE nothing more for them to get knocked back down to earth. i also wasn't too excited about any of the movies this year but ONE thing i was definitely eagerly anticipating was what all the celebs would be wearing. and surprisingly i didn't feel like there were that many let downs this year (just a few mistake that can easily be fixed for next time). lace, sparkle, and different hues of my alumni color (GEAUX LSU) were all the hits on the red carpet this year. i recently talked about lace and sparkle(on the grammy's red carpet) and loved that the celebs decided to get into the spring spirit and wear these lovely trends down the carpet.

so most memorable for me: the guys and i don't mean the guys' tuxes either. I'm talking about their smokin wives/dates. Camilla Alves(Matthew Mcconaughey's lady) looked STUNNING in a sexy black number by Kaufmanfranco. also Rhea Durham(Marky Mark's hunny) sparkled in a two-toned Naeem Khan gown.

and as far as honorable mention: Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier, it might have washed her out just a tad bit, buutt that dress was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. also deserving some recognition is Mila Kunis in Elie Saab Couture. I wasn't too crazy about the lavender color, buutt i did love the dress.

5 YEAR ANNIVERSAY

whoops-sorrrrry guys if you got the wrong impression buuuttt it's not not my five year anniversary (im not that dumb- jk!) it is actually TARGETS. im sure you have all read and heard (if not-get out of that cave and educate yourself or for that matter go take a shower!!) anyways target is celebrating the five-year anniversary of its GO International Program by re-releasing 34 dresses from its past 17 designer collaborations. so bargain shoppers mark you calender for march 13th, when stores and online shopping will begin. but before you savy shoppers stay up all night at your computer or go camping outside of stores, you might want to sneak a peak of the collection first. i hate to be such a debbie downer but im never too impressed with the GO INTERNATIONAL lines. i have liked a few dresses here and there (the RODARATE leopard dress-which didn't make the cut!!) but for the main part i usely just buy targets' different brands. a lot of time i feel like the designers treat these "lower" lines as if they are feeding the masses and that taste doesn't matter as long we have food. WRONG. just bc we cant afford the champagne doesn't mean we have a beer sense of style. soooooo if you are still interested here are a few of the looks that will be reappearing. annnnd for the people who still don't get the duds a second time around- third times a charm?

Stripe Out

i'm pretty sure the saying goes "three strikes and your out?" well if i applied that to my new love for stripes in my wardrobe then it would definitely be the other teams turn up to bat. recently a family friends' kid asked me why do i always wear stripes? so i took a step back and thought i might need some kind of invention? in my previous post about j.cew spring 2011 i mentioned that i recently jumped ahead of the game and did some spring shopping, but what i left out was that everything i bought was striped. i couldn't help myself. i felt like i was at the dog pound and every striped piece of clothing was looking at me with puppy-dog face, screaming i need a home(i've never been to a dog pound for that sole reason-plus i like the fact that my clothes don't need to be fed or potty trained)

my problem isn't that my stripes all look the same- as a mater of fact i have a wide variety of differnt colors, sizes, and type of clothing in stripes. my problem is i tend to wear them all the same way. so i came to the conclusion that what i needed to do was stray away from wearing them in a preppy manner and instead mix/match them to achieve different looks. so i decided to pair my black thin striped lazy-t with a fun and flirty leopard skirt, and then i slipped on my navy striped pull over with some jeggings and a pair of cowboy boots. now i can still wear my stripes but in a little less subtle and noticeable way. so go ahead and strike stripe it out!

peek-a-boo

with all the see through fabrics appearing everywhere on the fall 2011 runway-i cant help but want to wear them right now!! i figured i would have to come up with a way to "make it work" for spring 2011. so what was the solution to my problem? LACE & CROCHET. two weekends ago i purchased an amazing tan crochet dress & i figured it could pull double duty as a casual shopping saturday dress or a daring bathsuit cover up. i love it!!! these "barely there" fabrics can keep you cool in the heat and leave little to the imagination. buuuuuttt if your like me and lacking a crochet kit, then below i have found some cheap&chic items.

GRAMMYS 2011

the grammys are know for their outlandish and daring outfits (how could you forget jlos green dress) and with that being said the 2011 award show did not disappoint at all. what can i say though these people are music icons not style icons!! but you would think they could afford a decent stylist- riiiiight? the outfits for the night were not a complete let down though. i loved seeing the bronze, shimmer look on the red carpet. so hedi klum, selena gomez and kim k all get thumbs up from me(notice how none of them are music artists). now for the long list of celebs who get thumbs down- rhinna, katy perry(i think she took some leftovers from the VS fashion show), ciara, and gaga!!! sorry im not a fan of cotton balls, angel wings, gladiator outfits, or eggs(unless im eating them). i know that they each want to be unique and express the individual artist within them, buuuut i think there is a classy and tasteful way to go about doing that. my advice is- hire a fashion stylist, add some pop-out color or shimmer to your outfit, and just let your amazing talent and voice make you stand out!! this only makes me more excited for feb 27th where real fashion will prevail.

i've got good news. and i've got bad news.

FINALLY.the day has come. H&M last week tweeted that they would soon be launching online shopping in the U S of A. (insert loud scream here). i heart h&m and ALL their diffusion lines SO much & now all of the united states can acquire fast fashion at an affordable price. it will soon be at the tips of our hands (literally- just a click and a online shopping basket away). this also means maybe no camping outside of stores with thousands&thousands of eager girls waiting on the arrival of big name designer brands. so whats the bad news you ask?? well the fine print of the tweet- this will not be available until THE END OF 2011/BEGINNING OF 2012. yup you heard me right! i don't think i have every been teased like this in my entire life (maybe i deserve this for all the teasing i have done in my life-HA). but we aren't the only ones receiving the bad news here either. Forever21, Urban Outfitters, and even Top Shop have been huge competitors of H&M ever since it came to America. BUT they still had one advantage over h&m- ONLINE SHOPPING. with the playing field to soon be leveled- all i have to say is move over and make room and hope not to get bumped out.

9.2.11

do i hear wedding bells?

no bells are being rung in my life- but for anyone else who is deciding to get hitched you might want to reconsider your traditional wedding. GAAAASSSSP. did I really say to stray away from the traditional? HA!!! in past decades, most girls have worn the princess white dress and said their vows in their childhood church-however that is not the case anymore!! now days, couples are getting married on beaches, throughout mountain tops, on ranches, or even in someone’s back yard. for all these reasons, Urban Outfitters’ thinks that their new wedding line, Bhldn, will be a hit among the young sophisticated hipster under the age of thirty.

According to Huffington Post, Kristen Norris, managing director said “we’re confident that we’re filling in space that no one’s filling in. We’re offering a take that’s not out there. We have a lot shorter dresses, lots of color, and lots and lots of prints.”

URBN won’t stop at the dress though; they want to be a part of the whole concept. They want to be there for every step you take for the BIG DAY. The website will also include accessories, jewelry, lingerie, tabletop, cake pedestals, and everything else for decorating a wedding. aanndd you can even access wedding stylists' advice via website too!!

PUHHHLEEAASE- dont paint to the town RED

whether your hitting the town with your girlfriends, spending quality time with your man, or hoping to experience "love at first sight" on your blind date- finding the perfect outfit for v-day can add even more unnecessary stress to the holiday. as if there isn't enough pressure on the date itself, now you have to find the exact outfit that sends the right message. when it comes to this special holiday i have plenty of do's and dont's but mainly just ONE BIG ONE for fashion- stay away from RED!!! its just so cliche and expected!! aaaand that also includes anything with hearts on it, the color pink, or any graphic tees with love sayings on them (i didn't think i had to say that- but you never know!!)

i definitely think you should pick your outfit according to circumstances of the date. so whether you on going to eat at a fancy smancy restaurant, forgetting your single life with your girlfriends, or having a solo romantic night with your hunny-finding the right outfit is easy as finding prince charming (hehe-ok maybe not) below i have posted looks for each type of occasion! happy vday everyone!! "there's no place like home"

dorthy said it best herself. don't get me wrong the south is my home and will always be home buuuutttttt right right now i would love those ruby red slippers (or these louboutins would work too) to teleport me to my home away from home NYFW. with everyone in the fashion industry tweeting about seat charting, looking for last minute interns, and deciding what to wear (something besides black) i cant help but get into the craze about NYFW Fall/Winter 2011.even though I'm a million miles away i feel like i have a front row seat sometimes thanks to the latest technology (twitter, blogosphere, etc...) below i have posted the complete schedule and i definitely have my eyes set on a few designers (Derek Lam, Charlotte Ronson, Tracey Reese, Hervé Léger, Tibi, and who could miss out of miss BJ's famous cartwheel at the end-not i!!) you can tell my sense of style from those designers riiggght?-ha

so don't forget to mark your calenders for your favorites as well and p.s. "the tents" have been relocated to Lincoln Center this year.

JUMPSUITS

as long as its not striped, bright orange, or has a name tag on it then your JUMPSUIT will definitely be a hit for spring 2011. these rejuvenated jumpsuits have taken a play off last years daring rompers but some sophistication and length has been added (thank goodness-my legs aren't near ready to be exposed yet)!!

so if i haven't convince you yet to take the leap or JUMP (sorry i had too!) then maybe informing you that they come in all different shapes and sizes this year (yes even you petite peeps can wear them too) might help you change your mind!! from Marc Jacobs' pattern pieces to YSLs' chic all black number and even Rachel Roy's office appropriate jumper; theres bound to be one to suit you perfect!!Lanvin even converted the LBD into a LBJ, with a tuxedo inspired one-piece look.

the only problem you might encounter while wearing these onesies is during a trip to the bathroom(it can get veeerrrry compliacted?!) so no matter if you choose halter, loose, long sleeved, belted, or tight make sure your closet is filled with one (just think you can have ONE WHOLE outfit on ONE hanger)imagine all the other spring outfits you can fit into that extra closet space you are saving :)

ASOS amazing website has jumpsuits in all differernt styles and prices... here are some of my favorites...

i think i jinxed myself.

last saturday it was a beautiful day here in the south. i was out and about shopping with my little sister who was going to dc for a week and i was truly perspiring getting in and out of the car. since i wasn't in the market for gloves or hats like my sis, i decided to purchase a few spring buys-TOTALLY REGRETTING that now. this last winter storm hit us pretty hard in the south and i've truly got the winter blues. all i want to do is hibernate (bears get to do that for winter why cant we??) buuuut then i saw this GORGE spring collection for JCREW SPRING 2011. i just keep imagining myself in these clothes and thinking warm thoughts(not making it warmer outside but definitely lifting my spirits UP). don't get me wrong i love buying winter boots and jackets- but i LOOOVVVE spring/summer clothes soooo much better! there's just so many prints, colors, and pieces to mix and match!

I DIE FOR THE PIECES. and with that being said my bank account would die too after buying them. unfortunately i wont be able to afford the $300-$600 price tag of these outfits...( i guess i can look but not touch??)...so that leads me to my next mission and blog- to find these chic looks for cheap. well until then it doesn't hurt to oohh and ahhh over them! ENJOY!!

1.2.11

SAG AWARDS 2011 aka SAFE.AWFUL.GOWNS

after watching the sag awards (ok ok I didn’t watch all of it-I just saw enough to report on the fashion and then I turned it to RHOA finale- don’t judge!) anyhow after seeing the dresses last night I thought I would stick with my fashion victims from the golden globes and rate them this go around...let’s hope by the time the Oscars get here they finally nail it or hire me as their stylist :)

Young Hollywood Blondes aka Emma Stone

Since I couldn’t find Emma at the SAG Awards I thought these girls would work? All joking aside January Jones and Claire Danes both look beautiful but both looks fall a little short for me. January's Carolina Herrera silhouette is fab and the print is okkkayyy- but the swirl on top of her head is a little too much for me(save it for your ice cream cone) I also think Claire's Louis Vuitton frock is very fun and flirty and I love her hot pink lips but I think she could have snazzed up her hair and jewelry for a little bit more excitement. or i almost think both girls could switch looks and that would have have worked better?

Natalie Portman in Azarro

UPGRADE.well ms. portman must read my blog (ha wishful thinking eh?) but seriously I would definitely have to say she upgraded from the golden globes and I only hope she keeps upgrading even more by the time the Oscars come around. I think the fit, color, hair, and makeup all suit her well for a “sophisticated-mom to be". The only thing I would like to see her change by the Oscars is maybe to "sex it up" a little bit- yes I said that!! She needs let her hair down, show of those tatas (we all know how wonderful those things look when your preggers) and wear some electric color that screams "I’ve got a bump and I’m still gorge!!" I’m keeping my fingers cross that she stays on the right tracks and nails her look when she receives her first Oscar!!

Christina Hendricks in L'Wren Scott
DOWNGRADE-I feel like I should be nice since I was so negative about her dress at the golden globes- but I can’t find anything nice to say (I know my mom always said if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all- but I like to look at it as positive criticism) she MUST NOT read my blog-ha! I’m pretty sure I said to pick some color any color next time and that being said BLACK is not a color. If I didn’t know any better I would think she was showing up for a twilight casting. the eye makeup is too much, the skin is too pale, the slit is too high, and the shoes are just eww. christina, christina, christina I’m thinking third times a charm?? I would say it can’t get any worse from here-but with you who knows what could happen. there are some people like you who just love being on the worst dress list everytime. more power too you sister
