pop of color

i'm really loving the color coral lately. i've actually always like it! its one of those colors that i have a lot of in jewelry, tops, skirts, yada yada yada...buuuuuutttttt what i dont have are any CORAL SHOES. everytime i look at an outfit, i think what could make the look POP a little more?? so with all the color blocking and bright ideas going on for spring right now, i thought why not add a great pair of peachy/orangey pumps to each outfit (i know im soooo smart-wink wink) below are two pairs i have my eyes set on right now....

LuLu's- $99

LuLu's-$131

a few quick tips on how to add the pop or color to your wardrobe....
1. pair coral shoes with contrasting colors... like a royal blue dress or with a pair of bright yellow skinny jeans
2. replace your brown clogs with a vibrant pair of coral ones to snazz up your netural tone outfit
2. stand out in your simple white blouse and blue jeans with pair of peachy shoes

COLOUR

some may think that pastels, bolds, and neutrals have nothing in common BUUUUUTTTT when it comes to SPRING 2011 nail color- THEY ARE ALL THE RAVE! Whether  you choose a sky blue pastel, a bold peachy pink, or a barely there neutral, just make sure not to leave home WITHOUT them painted!!! (specially your toes-EWWW).

AMERICAN APPAREL may be in a little bit of trouble right now, but ONE thing this US clothing retailer has going for them is their recent launch of nail polish. their new nail lacquer line consist of a wide variety of colours all inspired by their company. you will find "office" (which refers to the minty green accounting notepad you might find of the 7th floor) or "factory" (which of course refers the shade of their factory floors and walls). so what are you waiting for- START PAINTING!!!

some of my favorites are PALM SPRINGS (3rd from the left top row) MANILA (2nd from the left on bottom row)

no she didnt

first off i would like to tell u exactly what my title was and what i did all week... but it was OHHH SOOO ever changing. so i will save all those exciting details for later in the week because right now i still CAN NOT STOP talking/thinking about what i saw on FRIDAY NIGHT.

BUUUTTT let me give you a quick summary of how each night went down (or was suppose to go down) the actual show first began with 3 approximately 10 min runway shows for local boutiques. AND dont get confused here-these aren't your mom and pop boutqiues either. these are FASHION FORWARD ahhmazingly styled shows (ex Copper Penny/Hampden Clothing). next there would be a 45 minute break (well a break for the audience not us) and then four emerging designers would present 8 pieces out of their fall 2011 collection (to be judged by the people and by the judges- Mychael Knight/Fern Mallis/Gilt Group Co Founder)!!! lastly the show would end with a featured designer (like Hunter Dixon) and then finally they would announce the winner of emerging designer competition for the night (who would then go on to compete in the final competition Saturday night) got all that??

OKKKAAYYY so back to what my eyes saw friday night. it was the most BEAUTIFUL.WHIMSICAL.INTRICATE.ASTONISHING.AND GASPING COLLECTION EVER. and i wasn't the only one who thought this. the audience and judges gave a standing ovation to the lovely collection.

so who is she? CHARLOTTE HESS and her lines is ISOBEL AND CLEO and it is ALL HAND-MADE. yup these beautiful knitted garments are all made by miss charlotte herself. as i cued each model i couldn't help but almost miss my cue bc i was so mesmerized by each piece. its one thing to design a garment but its another thing hand knit each garment too. ANNNDDD these pieces aren't from your grandmas knitting collection either- they are actually STYLISH & WEARABLE. i'll stop talking now and let the pictures do the rest.

ps. i also met charlotte for a brief second and helped her move her collection into the tents. and she was the NICEST. SWEETEST. FUNNIEST. MOST DOWN TO EARTH PERSON EVER. every desinger needs to take cues from her.

pss. will you except my friends request already???

28.3.11

is it already over??

SERIOUSLY. i cant believe I'm back in the swamp already? where the heck did my week go! it seems like just yesterday i was trying to justify bringing TWO huugggge bags (one for clothes + one for shoes) when my whole wardrobe had to consist of all black? oooooh weeellllll i guess time flies by when your having fun/working hard.

i just want to first start off by saying hoow aHHHHmaZZING CHSFW 2011 was. there were soooooo many talented people that attended/worked/participated in the week lonh of exciting events. the spectacular event took place in Marion Square aka their central park. there were three main tents (1.for the runway 2. for the models/designers/make up&hair team/CHAOS 3. for the style lounge (booze/local vendors/music).

each night...well i mean day.. i started off in the CHAOS TENT everything seemed great and running sooo smoothly until right about the time that the designers started arriving and the models didn't start arriving( i guess they thought fashionably late applied to them??) also last minute music changes/ line up changes/ look changes/ needing a steamer AND a place to plug it into/ AND 20 models nails to be painted black with one tiny little bottle seemed to mess up our little perfect well planned  out routine. BUUUUTTT it was what kept the night interesting and oh sooo fuuunnn. ONE THING i wont complain about is stripping models down (well male models-wink wink!!!)

i could go on and on and on about my FAB week but i thought i would bore everyone to death with one loooonnnng huugggggge post about FASHION WEEK soo i thought i would dedicate this whole week to my awesome experience... i know u want to hear all about it- SO STAY TUNED... duuunnh dunnnnhh dunnnnh (scary anticipation sound)

MY INNER CHEETAH

recently i noticed i have a secret obsession with leopard print. OKKKAYY maybe i didn't just discover my love for leopard buuuuut lately i started to notice how much i have racked up in the print. i have a purse, shirts, leggings, scarfs, shoes, some little garments(wink wink) and NOW im adding these AHHHMAZING nail art stickers to my collection. SALLY HANSEN makes these awesome nail art stickers in all different colors, shades, and prints. AND FOR ONLY $10(HOLLA). all joking aside if any of you are anything like me and can barely paint your left hand let alone your right hand...then crafty stickers are for YOU!! i tried the gold sparkly-glittery ones a few weeks ago and I'm not going to lie- they aren't easy to put on!!BUT they definitely look better than me attempting to paint some nail art on my nails myself. the only other downfall is they claim to last 18 days buuuuuuttt that's not the case. either way I'm just excited to have cheetah print on my nails. HAPPY WEEKEND EVERYONE!!

ps the name of the nail i picked was "kity, kity"- MEEEOOOOOWWWWWW

THE TRENCHES

with all this gloomy and yucky weather we have been experiencing lately, i have kind of been down and out. buuuuuuuttt then i remembered there was ONE trend for spring that could lift my spirits and get me ready for April showers-THE TRENCH COAT.dick tracy might have been the first to make the trench coat a staple is his wardrobe BUT now it has become a staple that EVERY fashionita needs in her wardrobe. the bold prints and colors for SPRING 2011 may not become an everyday piece in your wardrobe, but the TRENCH COAT trend for SPRING 2011 will. this is a great investment piece that will last you through many different seasons ANNNDDD you can find one in whatever style that best suits you. weather you choose a bright yellow classic trench, a camel cape one, or a daring sleeveless wrap trench dress-just make sure you have one in your closet, or two or three or four.

shoes vs savings account

after reading an article posted on huffingtonpost this morning, i realized that i probably wasn't in their target audience. its not that i didn't know that before, but after this morning i finally came to grips with it. when i usually read their fashion articles, i can for the most part relate and feel the same way. its the ones that suggest what you should buy that i get completely abandoned by them. so that leads me to my article that i read this morning.

the article published was about sensible shoes that are still stylish. they let you dance the night away, strut up and down the mall, or look irresistible on a date night without smooshing your little nuggets. this article screamed to me- recently i went to a party and i thought my new leopard pumps were going to be the perfect piece to my outfit, lets just say i might as well have gone and put a $100 on black that night at the casino. my odds of winning are higher than the odds of me EVER wearing those pumps again. so whats the problem with the article you might ask? the problem i have is with the shoes they found, and I'm not talking about how the shoes' looked but I'm referring to the price tags that came with the shoes. as i was flipping through the slide show of shoes, i started to realize that i had seen plenty of shoes like that before, but they weren't near that expensive. so i gave my self a mission this morning- to find not only SENSIBLE shoes with STYLE, but SENSIBLE shoes with STYLE and an AFFORDABLE PRICE TAG

OSCARS 2011-MISHAPS

like i said yesterday, i didn't think there was that many bad fashion choices at the OSCARS this year.... just a few tiny mistakes here and there.so as far as poor decisions goes, i would like to first start off with Cate Blanchett's Givenchy Couture frock, I'm still not a fan of lavender(i think its one of those colors that should only be used on walls) and also it seems as if Cate misplaced the self portrait of herself that was obviously suppose to go into the picture frame on the front of her dress(sorry for the harshness).as jayz says "on to the next one"....and so its Amy Adams-a navy dress is about as cool as navy shoes (save it for weddings)!!! I'm all down for full on sparkle dress, but next time Amy please pick it a better color and leave out the mismatch pendent necklace while your at it. oooooohhhh and bbbbyyyyyy the way does anyone else think Reese Witherspoon looked like she was going to a themed party?(maybe her invitation to the Oscars lacked black tie affair on it) but all joking aside i didn't mind her Armani dress, but the  ponytail just threw me for a loop. ok.ok.ok. i could probably go on and on and on-buuuuutttt i think I'm starting to be a little like ricky gervais and not knowing when to stop. so i guess ill give it a rest until the next award season... DUN DUN DUN(the sound of anticipation.).....

PS. if you are wondering why G.Paltrow didn't make my list of best dressed-it was bc of that awkward pendent on her hip. i mean sometimes small things like jewelry/hair can just kill a whole look.

OSCARS 2011

well the OSCARS have come and gone. but now is the best part (the critics turn to reign in on everything). this year i basically just watched the live red carpet show before hand and skimmed through magazines during the show. i really wasn't too thrilled about the host(GASP)-yes i said it!! don't get me wrong i think Franco has something going for him the in the looks department and i usually think Anne is a great up and coming style icon(except for last night) buuuuut with that being said i don't know why that gives them the right to host the oscars. i need someone with jokes, a little filth, and some evil humor towards the celebs. i mean us humans are sitting here watching these aliens look gorgeous, wear dresses that we would die to have on, and on top of that receive gold naked men statues, so we would LOVE nothing more for them to get knocked back down to earth. i also wasn't too excited about any of the movies this year but ONE thing i was definitely eagerly anticipating was what all the celebs would be wearing. and surprisingly i didn't feel like there were that many let downs this year (just a few mistake that can easily be fixed for next time). lace, sparkle, and different hues of my alumni color (GEAUX LSU) were all the hits on the red carpet this year. i recently talked about lace and sparkle(on the grammy's red carpet) and loved that the celebs decided to get into the spring spirit and wear these lovely trends down the carpet.

so most memorable for me: the guys and i don't mean the guys' tuxes either. I'm talking about their smokin wives/dates. Camilla Alves(Matthew Mcconaughey's lady) looked STUNNING in a sexy black number by Kaufmanfranco. also Rhea Durham(Marky Mark's hunny) sparkled in a two-toned Naeem Khan gown.

and as far as honorable mention: Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier, it might have washed her out just a tad bit, buutt that dress was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. also deserving some recognition is Mila Kunis in Elie Saab Couture. I wasn't too crazy about the lavender color, buutt i did love the dress.

5 YEAR ANNIVERSAY

whoops-sorrrrry guys if you got the wrong impression buuuttt it's not not my five year anniversary (im not that dumb- jk!) it is actually TARGETS. im sure you have all read and heard (if not-get out of that cave and educate yourself or for that matter go take a shower!!) anyways target is celebrating the five-year anniversary of its GO International Program by re-releasing 34 dresses from its past 17 designer collaborations. so bargain shoppers mark you calender for march 13th, when stores and online shopping will begin. but before you savy shoppers stay up all night at your computer or go camping outside of stores, you might want to sneak a peak of the collection first. i hate to be such a debbie downer but im never too impressed with the GO INTERNATIONAL lines. i have liked a few dresses here and there (the RODARATE leopard dress-which didn't make the cut!!) but for the main part i usely just buy targets' different brands. a lot of time i feel like the designers treat these "lower" lines as if they are feeding the masses and that taste doesn't matter as long we have food. WRONG. just bc we cant afford the champagne doesn't mean we have a beer sense of style. soooooo if you are still interested here are a few of the looks that will be reappearing. annnnd for the people who still don't get the duds a second time around- third times a charm?

23.2.11

Stripe Out

i'm pretty sure the saying goes "three strikes and your out?" well if i applied that to my new love for stripes in my wardrobe then it would definitely be the other teams turn up to bat. recently a family friends' kid asked me why do i always wear stripes? so i took a step back and thought i might need some kind of invention? in my previous post about j.cew spring 2011 i mentioned that i recently jumped ahead of the game and did some spring shopping, but what i left out was that everything i bought was striped. i couldn't help myself. i felt like i was at the dog pound and every striped piece of clothing was looking at me with puppy-dog face, screaming i need a home(i've never been to a dog pound for that sole reason-plus i like the fact that my clothes don't need to be fed or potty trained)

my problem isn't that my stripes all look the same- as a mater of fact i have a wide variety of differnt colors, sizes, and type of clothing in stripes. my problem is i tend to wear them all the same way. so i came to the conclusion that what i needed to do was stray away from wearing them in a preppy manner and instead mix/match them to achieve different looks. so i decided to pair my black thin striped lazy-t with a fun and flirty leopard skirt, and then i slipped on my navy striped pull over with some jeggings and a pair of cowboy boots. now i can still wear my stripes but in a little less subtle and noticeable way. so go ahead and strike stripe it out!

peek-a-boo

with all the see through fabrics appearing everywhere on the fall 2011 runway-i cant help but want to wear them right now!! i figured i would have to come up with a way to "make it work" for spring 2011. so what was the solution to my problem? LACE & CROCHET. two weekends ago i purchased an amazing tan crochet dress & i figured it could pull double duty as a casual shopping saturday dress or a daring bathsuit cover up. i love it!!! these "barely there" fabrics can keep you cool in the heat and leave little to the imagination. buuuuuttt if your like me and lacking a crochet kit, then below i have found some cheap&chic items.

GRAMMYS 2011

the grammys are know for their outlandish and daring outfits (how could you forget jlos green dress) and with that being said the 2011 award show did not disappoint at all. what can i say though these people are music icons not style icons!! but you would think they could afford a decent stylist- riiiiight? the outfits for the night were not a complete let down though. i loved seeing the bronze, shimmer look on the red carpet. so hedi klum, selena gomez and kim k all get thumbs up from me(notice how none of them are music artists). now for the long list of celebs who get thumbs down- rhinna, katy perry(i think she took some leftovers from the VS fashion show), ciara, and gaga!!! sorry im not a fan of cotton balls, angel wings, gladiator outfits, or eggs(unless im eating them). i know that they each want to be unique and express the individual artist within them, buuuut i think there is a classy and tasteful way to go about doing that. my advice is- hire a fashion stylist, add some pop-out color or shimmer to your outfit, and just let your amazing talent and voice make you stand out!! this only makes me more excited for feb 27th where real fashion will prevail.
